As with other sphere, culturally mature perspective helps us appreciate art’s place in the larger human enterprise. It proposes that art’s function, ultimately is not just to entertain an decorate, or even just to engage us in easily forgotten parts of ourselves, though these things are important. Ultimately it is to give voice to just emerging human capacities. How today is art doing at this function? And what does this function suggest about art’s future?
